Security Camera Buying & Compatibility Guide
Choose a camera by answering four questions: where will it go, how will it get power, how will it connect, and where will recordings be kept? Then confirm the requirements of the exact model and configuration before ordering.
1. Match the connection to the location
Wi-Fi: suitable where the camera can use a supported wireless network with adequate signal. Check the model's Wi-Fi band, power source, app, and recording method. Compare Wi-Fi cameras.
Cellular: useful where Wi-Fi is unavailable, provided the supported mobile network covers the installation site. Check activation, compatible service, data-plan costs, and recording options for the model. ClearVero currently has no published cellular camera to compare here.
PoE and NVR: useful for a permanent wired setup when you can run compatible Ethernet cabling. Match camera and recorder compatibility, PoE power capacity, available channels, and storage to the number of views you need. Compare PoE and NVR systems.
2. Plan power before choosing a mounting point
Battery cameras need access for charging or replacement. Solar-assisted charging depends on panel placement, sunlight, weather, and camera activity; it is not a promise of uninterrupted power. Plug-in and PoE models need the stated electrical or networking equipment. Check the package contents and safe installation instructions for the selected model.
3. Decide what you need to record
Decide whether you need event clips or continuous recording, how many cameras will record, and how long you want footage available. Local cards, hubs, NVRs, and cloud services are different options; capacity, included media, internet needs, and any subscription vary by product. The product page should identify the sold configuration, while the manufacturer's instructions cover setup and maintenance.
4. Check compatibility and lawful use
Confirm the exact camera, hub or recorder, app, firmware, accessories, and market region before mixing components. A shared brand name alone does not establish compatibility. Review the product's stated operating temperature and weather rating for outdoor placement. Follow local privacy, surveillance, audio-recording, notice, and consent rules.
